Application of the Digital Workflow in Orofacial Orthopedics and Orthodontics: Printed Appliances with Skeletal Anchorage

As digital workflows are gaining popularity, novel treatment options have also arisen in orthodontics. By using selective laser melting (SLM), highly customized 3D-printed appliances can be manufactured and combined with preformed components. When temporary anchorage devices (TADs), the advantages of two approaches merged, which might improve efficacy, versatility, patient comfort. This article summarizes state-of-the-art technologies to design install skeletally anchored orthodontic appliances. The disadvantages critically discussed, examples for clinical application mini-implant mini-plate borne demonstrated.
